I’m beyond excited to finally share the first episode of Sister Girl in the Corporate World with all of you. This podcast has been in the making for quite some time, and starting it has been a journey of self-discovery, courage, and passion. For years, I sat on this idea, questioning myself and letting doubts creep in—classic imposter syndrome. But today, it’s here, and I’m proud to finally kick things off with a topic that impacts so many women of color in professional spaces: microaggressions.
Why I Started with Microaggressions Microaggressions are a silent but significant barrier for Black women and women of color in the workplace. These small, often unconscious comments or actions carry big consequences. In my first episode, I break down how these seemingly “innocent” remarks can actually have a profound impact on our mental health, confidence, and career advancement.
A Personal Journey This topic hits close to home for me. I’ve encountered microaggressions in subtle and blatant ways throughout my own career. Being told that I “don’t sound Black” over the phone or having my capabilities questioned in ways my colleagues’ never were—it’s exhausting. And these experiences add up, making us feel as if we have to work twice as hard just to be seen and heard. In the podcast, I share not just my own stories, but I also reflect on the experiences of many other women who have gone through the same thing.
The Impact on Mental Health and Career Growth Microaggressions don't just hurt in the moment—they linger. They can chip away at our self-esteem, contribute to burnout, and make us question whether we truly belong in spaces that we've worked hard to enter. I explore how microaggressions often go unchecked, creating a toxic work environment that limits our ability to thrive. Through this episode, I hope to bring awareness to this issue and empower listeners to speak up and push for change.
Why This Podcast Matters Sister Girl in the Corporate World is more than just a podcast—it’s a platform for us to come together, share our stories, and build a community of support. We need spaces where we can talk openly about our unique challenges in corporate environments, and microaggressions are just one part of that larger conversation.
What’s Next? This first episode is only the beginning. I’m looking forward to diving into other topics like imposter syndrome, mentorship, career advancement, and more. Together, we’ll continue to unpack what it means to navigate the corporate world as Black women and women of color, and how we can create paths to success on our own terms.
